I love kids! I loved teaching children’s music in public school, but I always knew most of the children that I taught (Kindergarten through Grade 5) would never become opera singers, concert pianists or future music teachers. That is why I am so excited about my new position as Director of Children’s Ministries, because I will have the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s spiritual life.
By partnering with parents, the church, and those who lead our children during Sunday school, Wednesday night programs and other special events, I look forward to walking alongside the parents in their role of discipling their children. How will we do this, you ask? I have been reading a book, called Lead Small Culture, Make Your Church A Place Where Kids Belong, by Reggie Joiner, Kristen Ivy and Elle Campbell. This book explains why kids and teenagers need other adults in addition to their parents. Why? Because they need adults that can connect them to a faith in Jesus, who believe in them, and who give them a place to belong.
I want Crestwood kids to wake up on Sunday morning and be excited because they will be going to church to meet with their friends who accept them, as well as their adult teachers who love them and show them the love of Jesus. This is why I hope you will consider joining a group of adults who believe that relationships with kids should be a priority in our church.
