On September 11th a charter to operate a Trail Life USA troop was granted to Crestwood. The troop number, selected by the core team, is VA-1200 (notice the resemblance to our Charter Colony address). The core team consists of Matt Merrill (serving as Charter Organization Representative and Chaplain), Jon Crain (Troopmaster), T.J. Hughes (Treasurer) and Rob McCann (Committee Chairman). They are currently joined by Ann and Bennie Good, who serve Trail Life as RVA Area representatives.
Trail Life USA is a Christ-centered outdoor adventure, leadership, and character development ministry. Within the operation of the local Troop, the primary statement/profession of Christian beliefs, faith, and/or doctrine is that belonging to the Charter Organization. As with any of its ministries, the Charter Organization should take steps to ensure the Troop appropriately reflects these beliefs. Furthermore, all Trail Life USA Charter Organizations and Registered Adult Members must adhere to the Christian principles stated in Trail Life USA’s Statements of Faith and Values, which is based on the Nicene Creed. TrailLifeUSA.com .can provide more information about the organization.
A Trail Life troop is for boys in grades K-12. The boys are divided into three age groups: Woodland Trail (K-5th), Navigators (6th-9th) and Adventurers (10th-12th). Initially it is the plan of the core team to only offer Trail Life to boys going into K-4th grade.
There will an open house to explain more about Trail Life and the troop at Crestwood. It will be at 6:30 on September 27 at the Midlothian Campus. Troop meetings are planned to be on Monday nights from 6-7 with the first meeting planned for October 15th. If you would like more information before the open house, contact a member of the core team or click HERE.
As the Trail Life USA Motto says (based on Colossians 1:10), ‘Walk Worthy’.
